Using the natural environment in Africa , WilderWise conducts a Team-Building course using the following format:
 

Forming : A team FORMS (i.e. a new person / some people are employed in the same team) - they become a group of people and at this stage they are in the polite stage. They are unlikely to say anything to upset one another. They just continue to work together.

Storming : The team STORMS - they start to feel more confident about themselves and their true personalities come out - which can get quite personal. People say if they are fed up with other members of the team. They might fight and argue and cause upset in the team balance.

Norming : The team NORMS - they start to realize that they all have something to contribute and that all members of a team are in fact different but needed for their different characteristics. The team therefore starts to accommodate each other and they start to work well together instead of fighting. They are finding a level on which to work.

Performing : The team finally starts to PERFORM and produce good results because they understand more about each other and they appreciate each other more. This is the stage when the team peaks and is working with a lot less effort to produce good work. It can often be at this stage when one member of the team moves on and the team has a replacement person and they have to start all over again.

WilderWise uses simple tasks set in the African bush environment to break down barriers and get employees to work and trust each other. Managers learn what motivates their employees to perform better. At the end of the course, employees feel empowered to perform better, they understand their co-workers more, and know more about the company they work for.

Throughout the course the larger group will break down into smaller teams to choose different tasks from a “menu” to complete. This simulates the divisional breakup in a larger organization. The groups will be continually changed to give everyone a chance to explore various situations and people on other teams.
