Musango
 

Musango Safari Camp is located on Lake Kariba . This private paradise island is a few kilometers from the southern shore in Zimbabwe . You can watch the sun rise and set over beautiful Lake Kariba . The facility offers a swimming pool; multiple opportunities for water activities such as fishing, canoeing, game viewing, and many National Parks are within driving/boating distance. The camp is an hour by boat from Kariba town, and offers a secluded setting with access to a plethora of flora and fauna. Musango works closely with local villages to enhance everyone's living in the surrounding area

Accommodation:

Student facilities include two person A-frame “bashas” with furnishings provided. Students share an ablutions block, (ladies and gents separated). Hot and cold water is available, as well as flush toilets, hand basins and mirrors. There will be a staff member to take care of laundry and student meals. Interns are welcome to interact with clients, but asked to behave appropriately. There is a swimming pool at this facility. A safe can be used to store any valuables. Internet access can be provided if students bring their own computers (or if we can arrange for a student computer per group).

A special request for this facility is that if students bring electronics to please bring12 volt charging equipment for when the generator is not on. Batteries are not easily available at this location, so please plan accordingly.

Interns have the opportunity to volunteer for the following projects:
  • Excavation and research on dinosaur fossils, including setting up of small on-site museum
  • Hospitality student or person with catering management experience need to oversee kitchen staff, plan menus, and see to lodge hospitality details
  • Training of local village businesses on management, marketing, and finance
  • Engineer to train local person and work on power, mechanics, and other utility sources
  • A few students to help teach subjects at local primary and secondary schools, and work with Musango to fix the school furnishings (*extra fuel cost)
  • Permaculture training and set up for local villages (Region 5)
  • Agriculture marketing of bee and fish products
  • Bee keeper training (*extra fuel cost)
  • Adult literature training (English not 1st language)
  • AIDS awareness and prevention training for all age groups
  • Volunteers needed to help organize and finish the building of community center, and school/medical clinic
  • Mammal and bird research and censuses.

The student rate for this facility is US$400 per week. Please note this does not include beer, liquor or cola beverages.
